Forum objectives

Sustainable agriculture, food and nutrition security are among the top development priorities of the International Organizations for the coming years. CIHEAM has been working in the Mediterranean area for more than 50 years now and is contributing in finding tangible actions to achieve these development priorities.

60% of the population of the Mediterranean area is under the age of 30 (UfM, 2016), therefore sustainable development can also be achieved through the implementation of policies targeting youth empowerment in order to cope with immigration by reducing the youth unemployment rate which is still high.

In 2015 CIHEAM launched its Strategic Agenda (CAPMED 2025) as well as its Action Plan in specific fields of the Mediterranean area for the purpose of implementing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development adopted at the United Nations.

CAPMED 2025 intends to maximize the opportunities of economic growth through research and innovation in line with SDG no 2 “End hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition and promote sustainable agriculture” and SDG no. 8 “Promote inclusive and sustainable economic growth, employment and decent work for all”.

.

CIHEAM organizes the 2nd Mediterranean Forum “Research and Innovation as Tools for Sustainable Agriculture, Food and Nutrition Security” for PhD students and young researchers of the Mediterranean region, from 18 to 20 September 2018 at CIHEAM Bari, Italy.

Objectives:

The Forum will focus on achieving the goals of both Sustainable Development and CAPMED2025 through research works aiming at:
