Call for papers

Participation and submission of abstracts and papers:

A call for papers in the form of a short abstract will be launched on February 26, 2018. The closure date for abstracts submissions is set for May 18, 2018.

The abstract must be written in one of the two official languages of CIHEAM, namely English or French.

It should not exceed 2 pages. 

 

Participants must:

  • be enrolled in PhD studies or be young researchers (post-doc ...) of CIHEAM or another Higher Education and Research Institute of the Euro-Mediterranean region;
  • conduct research on the challenges of Mediterranean agriculture;
  • have been previously selected based on the submitted abstracts.

To encourage participation, CIHEAM covers all registration, accommodation fees and meals.

Selection will be based essentially on scientific excellence. Oral communications will be in one of the two official languages of CIHEAM, namely English and French. Simultaneous translation is planned for speeches and debates during the forum.

Topics of the Forum

Session 1 objective: Protecting the Planet: Combating Waste. Communications of September 18, 2018

The aim of this session is to present studies allowing (directly or indirectly) the implementation of the first pillar of CAPMED2025: Protecting the Planet: Combating Waste.

Papers would cover research topics such as: ecosystem-centred approach to manage natural resources in agriculture, life cycle approach for efficient use of conventional and non-conventional resources (saline and waste waters, soil fertility, biomass recycling, composting), enhancement and protection of native genotypes of Mediterranean crops, agricultural losses and food waste reduction throughout food chains, innovative, eco-friendly and automated technologies and methods for agricultural production, e.g. precision agriculture and irrigation, post-harvest techniques, governance models for resources management and development of rural areas, information technologies for soil and water resources management.

Session 2 objective: Food and Nutrition Security "by boosting sustainable agriculture and food”. Communications of September 18, 2018.

The aim of this session is to present studies allowing (directly or indirectly) theimplementation of the second pillar of CAPMED2025: Food and Nutrition Security.

Papers would cover research topics such as: Sustainability of the Mediterranean food systems including food safety, security and nutrition, impacts of organic agriculture on food security and sustainable livelihoods in urban and rural communities, typical and traditional agro-food products, nutraceutical compounds in food, quality and authenticity of extra virgin olive oil (EVOO).

Session 3 objective: Inclusive Development. Communications of September 19, 2018.

The aim of this session is to present studies allowing (directly or indirectly) the implementation of the third pillar of CAPMED2025:Inclusive Development.

Papers would cover research topics such as: Sustainable development of coastal areas through knowledge sharing, dialogue, empowerment, capacity building of coastal communities and stakeholders for the enhancement of resources, women empowerment and gender equality with special attention to vulnerable groups, innovative rural development.

Session 4 objective: Crisis and Resilience. Communications of September 19, 2018.

The aim of this session is to present studies allowing (directly or indirectly) the implementation of the fourth pillar of CAPMED2025:Crisis and Resilience.

Papers would cover research topics such as: population mobility and migrations, mitigation of climate change impacts on different agricultural systems, sustainable management of invasive alien pests/pathogens including surveillance and control, pest/pathogen identification, characterisation, epidemiology and control, animal health, agricultural markets and smart business.
